LaLiga has come out strongly against Real Madrid’s complaint regarding referee Juan Martinez Munuera’s handling of anti-Vinícius Júnior chants during a recent match. The league has accused Real Madrid of initiating a “merciless campaign” against referees and has offered its unwavering support to the official in question.
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has also backed Martinez Munuera, dismissing Madrid’s claims as “unfair”. The RFEF has stated that the incidents in question were duly recorded by its match delegate and has offered its “total and unconditional support” to the referee.
Real Madrid had lodged a formal complaint with the RFEF, alleging that Martinez Munuera had deliberately omitted crowd chants of “Vinícius, die” in his match report. However, LaLiga’s Executive Commission has categorically rejected these claims and has condemned Madrid’s actions.
In its statement, LaLiga reiterated its commitment to eradicating all forms of violence, racism, xenophobia, and intolerance in football. The league has filed a complaint with the RFEF’s Disciplinary Committee and the State Commission against Violence, Racism, Xenophobia, and Intolerance in response to the incidents that occurred during the match.
This is not the first time Real Madrid and LaLiga have found themselves at odds. The two entities have clashed on various issues, from Madrid’s support for the European Super League to disagreements over income distribution from TV rights. Real Madrid has also been vocal about their dissatisfaction with the standard of refereeing in Spain this season.
Adding to the tensions, last month Sevilla filed a complaint against Real Madrid, accusing the club of engaging in a “campaign of persecution and harassment” against the officials who officiated their match in LaLiga. This further underscores the strained relationship between clubs and referees in the Spanish league.
The ongoing dispute between Real Madrid and LaLiga highlights the challenges faced by football authorities in maintaining fair play and respect for officials. It is crucial for all parties involved to uphold the integrity of the game and work towards resolving conflicts in a constructive manner.
