Manchester United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, has made it clear that he will not rush Luke Shaw back into action following another injury setback for the full-back. Shaw, who has been sidelined with a calf injury, is expected to be out until after the season’s first international break. Despite not featuring for Ten Hag’s team since February, Shaw did start for England in the Euro 2024 final against Spain, a decision that has received criticism from some United fans.
During a news conference, Ten Hag emphasized the importance of Shaw’s return while also acknowledging the need for patience in the recovery process. He stated, “He will return in the short term, it doesn’t take long. We are looking forward to Luke Shaw’s comeback as he is a crucial player for our team. However, we must allow the healing process to take its course and not rush his return.”
Although Shaw will miss United’s opening Premier League game against Fulham, the team has been bolstered by the recent signings of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich. Both players are expected to be part of the squad for the upcoming matches at Old Trafford. Ten Hag emphasized the importance of focusing on available players rather than dwelling on absentees, highlighting the need to build a strong team regardless of injuries.
Ten Hag concluded by noting that while the team may not be at full strength, the focus remains on incremental improvement and achieving higher performance levels both collectively and individually. He expressed confidence in the upcoming matches, emphasizing the need to take each game as an opportunity to grow and enhance the team’s capabilities.
The management of Luke Shaw’s recovery process serves as a reminder of the significance of patience in ensuring a player’s long-term well-being and performance. By prioritizing Shaw’s health and allowing him the necessary time to heal, Manchester United can build a stronger and more resilient team in the long run. This approach reflects a commitment to continuous improvement and progress, highlighting the importance of a strategic and patient approach to player rehabilitation.
