The Decision to Keep Erik ten Hag as Manchester United Manager

After a tumultuous season, where Manchester United struggled in the Premier League but ended on a high note by winning the FA Cup, the future of manager Erik ten Hag was uncertain. However, following an end-of-season review conducted by new co-owners INEOS and led by Sir Dave Brailsford, it has been decided that Ten Hag will remain in charge.

The conclusion of the review was clear – Ten Hag should stay as the manager of Manchester United. Despite a disappointing campaign in both the league and Europe, the decision was made after constructive discussions between Ten Hag and the club.

Previous Success

In his first season at Old Trafford, Ten Hag managed to secure a third-place finish in the Premier League and won the Carabao Cup. However, the following season was marred by poor performances in both domestic and European competitions, with United ending up in eighth place in the league.

During the uncertain period regarding Ten Hag’s future, Manchester United considered several potential replacements, including top managers like Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, and Roberto De Zerbi. The list also included Thomas Frank, Kieran McKenna, Graham Potter, and even Gareth Southgate.

Despite facing intense questioning about his future, Ten Hag remained defiant, attributing poor results to injuries and stating that if Manchester United did not want him, he would go elsewhere to win trophies. His confidence and determination were showcased after the FA Cup final victory.

With the decision made to retain Ten Hag, the manager is expected to return from his holiday in Ibiza and start preparing for the upcoming season. The team’s preseason training is set to begin in July, with a friendly match against Rosenborg in Norway scheduled for July 15th.

While there were doubts and discussions surrounding Erik ten Hag’s future as Manchester United manager, the decision has been made to continue with him in charge. The upcoming season will be crucial for both the manager and the club as they look to bounce back from a challenging campaign and compete for top honors once again.
