Manchester United Secures Deal with PSG for Midfielder Manuel Ugarte

Manchester United has successfully negotiated a deal with Paris Saint-Germain for the transfer of midfielder Manuel Ugarte. The agreement involves an initial fee of £42 million ($55.5m), with an additional £8 million in potential add-ons. This significant deal marks United’s ongoing efforts to strengthen their squad during the current transfer window.

The 23-year-old Uruguayan midfielder is expected to travel to Manchester on Tuesday to undergo medical evaluations and finalize the transfer process. If all goes well, Ugarte could potentially make his debut for United in their upcoming match against Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday, pending international clearance.

This acquisition adds to United’s total spending in the transfer market, which now exceeds £180 million. As part of their financial strategy, the club is looking to offset some of these expenses by allowing midfielder Scott McTominay to join Napoli. United has agreed on a £25 million fee with the Italian club and has granted McTominay permission to negotiate personal terms.

Sources have revealed that Ugarte expressed a strong desire to move to Manchester United, leading to his omission from Paris Saint-Germain’s recent Ligue 1 fixtures against Le Havre and Montpellier. The midfielder played a significant role for PSG last season, featuring in 37 matches across all competitions following his £50 million transfer from Sporting CP in 2023.

In addition to McTominay’s potential departure, United is also finalizing the transfer of midfielder Hannibal Mejbri to Championship side Burnley after completing a medical assessment on Monday. The club is actively seeking to offload defender Victor Lindelöf, although his move has been complicated by a recent toe injury that has sidelined the Swedish international.

Amidst these developments, clubs like Juventus and Chelsea continue to monitor the situation of winger Jadon Sancho. United is open to offers for Sancho before the deadline, highlighting the ongoing activity in the transfer market as the window draws to a close.

Overall, Manchester United’s recent dealings showcase their commitment to strengthening the squad and making strategic moves in the transfer market to achieve their footballing ambitions. With the potential arrival of Manuel Ugarte and other notable departures, the club is shaping up for an exciting and dynamic season ahead.
