Manchester United Looking to Sell Senior Players to Fund Summer Transfers

Manchester United is currently in the process of encouraging offers for several senior players in order to generate funds for additional transfer activities this summer. The club has already made significant moves by signing striker Joshua Zirkzee and center-back Leny Yoro for a combined fee of £88 million ($113.6 million). These two players have been brought in to fill the roles previously held by Anthony Martial and Raphaël Varane. However, manager Erik ten Hag is not stopping there and is also interested in acquiring a central midfielder, another center-back, and a right-back.

Leny Yoro, in particular, has expressed how United legend Rio Ferdinand played a role in his decision to join the club. Yoro mentioned in an interview that he had a conversation with Ferdinand about Manchester United prior to making his choice. Ferdinand highlighted the historic nature of the club and emphasized the importance of fighting for the team and being prepared, as Manchester United is considered one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Potential Outgoings

Despite the recent departure of Mason Greenwood to Marseille for a fee that could reach £26.6 million, Manchester United is still looking to offload other first-team players. Victor Lindelöf, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Christian Eriksen, all of whom have only one year left on their contracts, are among those that the club is open to receiving offers for. Even key players like Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay, Antony, and Jadon Sancho could be available for the right price.

One of the potential targets for Manchester United is Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt, although negotiations are currently stalled due to discrepancies in valuations. Additionally, the club has shown interest in Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte. Reports have also surfaced linking Jadon Sancho with PSG, with United setting an asking price of around £40 million for the winger. However, Manchester United is standing firm on the potential departure of club captain Bruno Fernandes, demanding a significant offer for his services.

Return of Key Players

Following their participation in Euro 2024, Rasmus Højlund and Christian Eriksen have returned to training with the team. Marcus Rashford, who missed a recent friendly due to injury, has also resumed training with the squad. United is scheduled to continue preparations at Carrington before embarking on their U.S. tour, which includes a match against Arsenal at SoFi Stadium.

Manchester United’s current focus on selling senior players to finance new signings highlights the club’s commitment to strengthening the squad for the upcoming season. The influence of club legends like Rio Ferdinand, the ongoing transfer speculations, and the return of key players all contribute to the anticipation surrounding the team’s future developments.
