Inter Miami Prepares for International Absences

Inter Miami head coach Gerardo Martino has confirmed that Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez will be available for the upcoming match against Atlanta United, following their rest during the clash against the Vancouver Whitecaps. Martino emphasized the importance of focusing on the immediate game and not looking ahead to the following fixture against St. Louis. He stated, “The idea is that he be present for both games, but first we have to play tomorrow’s game to think about Saturday.”

These two matches will serve as the final appearances for Messi before he departs to join the Argentinian national team for Copa América preparations. This international tournament is set to begin on June 20, with Argentina scheduled to participate in friendlies on June 9 and June 14. Martino disclosed that there has been no discussion with the Argentinian federation regarding Messi’s departure, as they typically start their concentration between Sunday and Monday. The team’s decision to establish a base in Miami and the proximity of the friendlies will ease Messi’s transition.

Furthermore, Luis Suárez may also be on the verge of departing Inter Miami to represent Uruguay in the Copa América. Despite the absence of official contact from the Uruguayan federation, Martino hinted at forthcoming news on the matter. He expressed, “We have great chances of losing Luis Suárez to Uruguay for the Copa América.”

Anticipated Player Absences

Midfielder Federico Redondo acknowledged the expected absences of key players like Messi, Matías Rojas, Diego Gómez, and potentially Luis Suárez during the Copa América and Olympics windows. This will pose a significant challenge for Inter Miami as they navigate through multiple matches during the international break, facing opponents such as the Philadelphia Union, Columbus Crew, Nashville SC, Charlotte FC, and FC Cincinnati.

Despite the looming absences, Inter Miami currently leads the Eastern Conference table with 34 points from 16 games. The team’s strong performance has been a testament to their resilience and depth as they continue to compete at the top of the league. The upcoming matches will serve as an opportunity for other players to step up and fill the void left by the departing stars.

In other news, St. Louis City SC unveiled the signing of German midfielder Cedric Teuchert on a two-year contract. The 27-year-old joins the club from German second-division side Hannover 96 and is committed to the team until June 2026, with an option for an extension through the remainder of the MLS season. This addition demonstrates St. Louis City SC’s ambition to strengthen their squad and compete at a high level in the league.

Overall, Inter Miami faces a challenging period ahead with key players set to depart for international duties. The team’s depth and resilience will be tested, but it also presents an opportunity for other squad members to showcase their abilities and contribute to the team’s success. As the Herons prepare for this transitional phase, they remain focused on maintaining their position at the top of the table and continuing their strong form throughout the season.
