Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo this upcoming summer transfer window. Sources have revealed to ESPN that the 26-year-old, who is currently out of contract at Craven Cottage, has caught the eye of several top clubs including Newcastle, Chelsea, and Tottenham. Adarabioyo has showcased his talent in the Premier League this season with 20 appearances and two goals to his name. The former England youth international made the switch to Fulham in 2020 after his stint at Manchester City, where he also had loan spells at West Bromwich Albion and Blackburn.
With Adarabioyo’s contract set to expire in June, Manchester United see an opportunity to bolster their defense by bringing him to Old Trafford on a free transfer. The Red Devils are in the market for a new center-back as part of a squad overhaul in the upcoming transfer window. The club’s new football leadership team, appointed by co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is spearheading the recruitment drive, with technical director Jason Wilcox particularly keen on reuniting with Adarabioyo, whom he knows from their time together at Manchester City. Wilcox’s experience at City’s academy and later at Southampton has equipped him with the knowledge to identify and nurture top talent like Adarabioyo.
There are uncertainties surrounding the futures of some of Manchester United’s existing center-backs, including Raphaël Varane, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelöf, and Jonny Evans. Varane is on the verge of leaving as his contract nears its end, while the club is yet to make a decision on offering an extension to 36-year-old Evans. Maguire and Lindelöf could potentially be offloaded by United, although it remains likely that at least one of them will stay at the club. The potential arrival of Adarabioyo could add depth and competition to the defensive ranks at Old Trafford, providing manager Ralf Rangnick with more options to choose from.
In a separate development, sources have indicated that Manchester United are due to receive another payment from Borussia Dortmund as part of the deal involving Jadon Sancho. The English winger’s loan move to Dortmund included add-ons linked to appearances and progression in both domestic and European competitions, capped at €4m ($4.3m). Sancho has been a key player for the German side, featuring in 18 games and scoring three goals, including crucial appearances in the Champions League. The initial loan deal cost Dortmund €3.5m, showing the financial benefits for both clubs in such loan agreements.
Manchester United’s pursuit of Tosin Adarabioyo reflects their ambition to strengthen the squad ahead of the new season. The potential addition of the talented defender could provide a solution to the defensive woes currently facing the club and add valuable depth to the backline. As the summer transfer window approaches, all eyes will be on Old Trafford to see how United’s defensive lineup shapes up for the upcoming campaign.
