Marseille Secures a Draw and Greenwood Shines with Third Goal of the Season

Mason Greenwood proved to be the hero for Marseille as he scored his third goal of the season in a 2-2 draw against Reims in the French Ligue 1. Despite an early lead through Amine Harit, Marseille’s defense struggled and allowed Reims to take the lead with goals from Yaya Kader Fofana and Sergio Akieme. This marked Greenwood’s third goal in the league, showing his impact since making a controversial move to Marseille from Manchester United this summer.

Roberto De Zerbi, Marseille’s manager, expressed his disappointment with the final result despite Greenwood’s late goal salvaging a point for the team. De Zerbi shared his feelings saying, “I’m disappointed and annoyed. I’m sorry, I would have liked to have won this first game at the Velodrome. I feel a huge responsibility with these fans.” Despite the positive outcome of avoiding defeat in their first league match at home, De Zerbi’s disappointment was evident.

Strasbourg secured their first league victory of the season with a high-intensity 3-1 win against Rennes. Andrey Santos and Emanuel Emegha gave Strasbourg a comfortable lead, despite Ludovic Blas pulling one back for Rennes. A late own-goal by Christopher Wooh sealed the win for Strasbourg, bringing a sense of relief to the fans who had been protesting against the club’s ownership.

Nantes put an end to their 10-game home winless streak by defeating newly promoted Auxerre 2-0 at Stade de la Beaujoire. Nigeria forward Moses Simon opened the scoring with a brilliant solo effort, while Bahereba Guirassy added a second goal deep in stoppage time. The win was a much-needed confidence boost for Nantes, especially after Auxerre was reduced to ten men following Ado Onaiwu’s dangerous tackle in the 52nd minute.

Lens secured a 2-0 victory over Brest with an early goal from Jhoanner Chavez and an own-goal from Julien Le Cardinal. However, Lens had to finish the match with ten men after Deiver Machado was shown a red card in the 88th minute. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Lens held on to secure all three points in the match against Brest.

On a pitch damaged by a fungal infection, Nice and Toulouse played out a 1-1 draw in their league encounter. American defender Mark McKenzie made his debut for Toulouse following his transfer from Genk. The match ended level, with both teams sharing the points after a hard-fought battle on the compromised pitch.

The latest round of matches in the French Ligue 1 provided exciting football action with notable performances from players like Greenwood, Santos, and Simon. The results of these matches will have a significant impact on the teams’ standings and set the tone for the remainder of the season.
