Scott McTominay Agrees to Join Napoli: A New Chapter in His Career

Scott McTominay, the 27-year-old midfielder from Manchester United, is set to make a move to Napoli after both clubs agreed on a fee of around £25 million. This new development comes after Napoli reached an agreement in principle, allowing McTominay to negotiate personal terms with the Italian club. The midfielder, who came on as a second-half substitute in United’s recent 2-1 defeat to Brighton, has caught the attention of several clubs this summer, including Fulham and Everton.

McTominay’s Desire for More Playing Time

Despite words from Erik ten Hag, who expressed his desire to keep McTominay at Old Trafford, the midfielder is eager for more regular playing time. Last season, McTominay made 43 appearances for United but often found himself coming off the bench under Ten Hag’s management. His impressive performance saw him score seven Premier League goals and a total of 10 across all competitions, marking his best season since his debut under Jose Mourinho in 2017.

McTominay’s potential move to Napoli not only signifies a new chapter in his football career but also provides Manchester United with greater flexibility in their transfer negotiations. If the deal with Napoli is finalized, United will have more leverage in their talks with Paris Saint-Germain for midfielder Manuel Ugarte. PSG has been holding out for a fee of £51 million, a valuation that United has been hesitant to match. With the possibility of McTominay’s transfer, United may be in a better position to meet PSG’s asking price for Ugarte.

There is confidence that a deal can be reached before the upcoming transfer deadline, as Ugarte has been left out of PSG’s opening Ligue 1 games this season. With negotiations in progress and McTominay’s potential move to Napoli on the horizon, the transfer window promises to bring about significant changes for both Manchester United and the players involved.
