Charlotte FC Set to Sign Tim Ream from Fulham: A Closer Look

Sources close to the negotiations have revealed that Charlotte FC is on the verge of completing the signing of Tim Ream from Fulham. Talks between the MLS team and Ream began over two months ago and are now in the final stages. Ream, a seasoned defender, has been with Fulham since 2015 and has made significant contributions to the team, with his contract set to expire in 2025. The impending transfer would require Charlotte to pay an undisclosed fee to Fulham for securing Ream’s services.

Despite suffering a calf injury during the 2023-24 season, Ream managed to make 18 appearances and score one goal across all competitions for Fulham. His time in Europe has also earned him a prominent role in the United States men’s national team, with 56 caps to his name. Notably, Ream started all four matches for the USMNT in the 2022 Qatar World Cup and played a key role in the team’s 2024 Copa América campaign.

Upon joining Charlotte FC, Ream is expected to bolster the team’s defense as an experienced left-footed center back. Head coach Dean Smith has highlighted the need for Ream’s defensive prowess, emphasizing his importance in the team’s backline. However, it remains unclear when Ream will make his debut for the MLS team, given the ongoing negotiations and logistics involved in the transfer process.

Charlotte FC currently holds the sixth position in the Eastern Conference table, with 37 points from 25 games. The team recently faced an early exit from the 2024 Leagues Cup, earning just two points in the group stage. Looking ahead, Charlotte is set to resume league-play on Aug. 24 against the New York Red Bulls at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. This match will provide an opportunity for Ream to showcase his defensive capabilities and make his mark in the MLS.
